Youth Fencing Programs

Fencing Academy of Boston offers fencing instruction for youths and teens aged 6-18, from beginner to competitive level, fencing-themed birthday parties, and club tournaments.

(Beginning fencers 15 and older, see Adult Fencing Programs)

Kids can start learning to fence as young as 6 years old – FAB has beginner-level classes for every age group!

Youth Beginner Fencing
Introductory Fencing Class for Youths: ages 9-14

Learn the fundamentals of fencing in this introductory class for youths aged 9-14. Fencers in this class train to advance to the competitive level youth program. Please contact us ahead of your visit using the form here or email to: fencingacademyofboston@gmail.com

Youth Fencers progress from beginners to start training competitively, or just fence for the fun of it on a more relaxed schedule.

Youth Recreational Fencing
Non-competitive saber fencing for youths: ages 9-14

Youth Recreational Fencing Academy of Boston

Students receive continued fencing instruction and practice without the commitment or pressure to compete in this fun intermediate+ fencing class for youths aged 9-14 who have prior fencing experience (recommended – at least 1-2 terms of Youth Beginner or Fabbies, or equivalent; subject to assessment).
Footwork, bladework, coordination and agility exercises, drills, and practice bouting.
Equipment provided. May be repeated.

Advanced Fabbies Fencing
Competitive-level saber fencing for youths: ages 6-9

Advanced Fabbies Competitive Youth Fencing

A class for Fabbies with experience and desire to train to head to fencing competitions. Students at the competitive level are required to have their own equipment, and strongly recommended to sign up for private instruction. Upgrade to Competitive USA Fencing membership to enter USA Fencing-sanctioned tournaments.

Footwork, bladework, coordination and agility exercises, drills, tactical and strategy training, practice bouting, and practice tournaments. Monthly terms.

Advanced Fabbies attendance is 1x or more per week; can be combined for more challenge and advancement:

Combine with Fabbies to step up from a beginner level (2x per week attendance).
Combine with Youth Competitive (2x or more per week combo) to transition to Y10-competitive-level: By invitation only.

Fridays 4:30-6pm and Sundays 10-11:30am.

Private Individual and Group Lessons
Personal instruction to focus on refining stance and graduate to more complex fencing moves

Youth Competitive Fencing Academy of Boston

Set and train for competition goals in this intensive fencing class with private lessons included in the package. For experienced fencers 8-14 who have the discipline to play hard to achieve their dreams of triumph in competitive fencing. Students at the competitive level are required to have their own fencing equipment, attend practice regularly, and go to competitions. Upgrade to Competitive USA Fencing membership to enter USA Fencing-sanctioned tournaments. Monthly tuition includes practice attendance 2x or more per week and 2x per week 20-minute private lessons.

Footwork, bladework, coordination and agility exercises, drills, tactical and strategy training, practice bouting, and practice tournaments.

Attendance in Youth Competitive Program is 2x per week minimum attendance and 2x per week 20-minute private lesson, September-June

Competitive teen saber fencers get advanced training and practice with their peers in our Competitive Cadet Class. Students at the competitive level are required to have their own fencing equipment, attend practice regularly, and go to competitions. Upgrade to Competitive USA Fencing membership to enter USA Fencing-sanctioned tournaments. 

Footwork, bladework, coordination and agility exercises, drills, tactical and strategy training, practice bouting, and practice tournaments.

Competitive Cadet/Junior is offered 1x per week; can be combined for more practice/training:

Combine with Club Membership – to attend Open Fencing for more practice and mentorship, lesson discounts, and other benefits – 50% off Club Membership
Combine with Youth Competitive – (2x or more per week attendance) – Y14-age-eligible may add Youth Competitive classes for additional practice and to learn through mentoring younger competitive fencers.

FAB Super Sabers Youth Tournaments
Regularly-scheduled Youth Fencing Tournaments for all FAB Youth Fencers: ages 6-14

Team FAB Youth Saber Tournaments

The “Super Sabers” series of youth fencing tournaments we host introduces newer fencers to the process and pace of a competition, and tests the skills and stamina of our more experienced young fencers and prepares them for other competitions. Everyone is encouraged to participate and represent Team FAB! Competing at tournaments gives fencers aged 6-14 the opportunity to meet and fence FAB students from other youth programs, as well as young fencers from outside of our club, to see the progress they are making, earn medals, and have a lot of fun! Cheering sections are welcome!

Tournaments held approximately once monthly; Schedule and registration info posted on askfred.net and emailed to FAB Parents – next Super Sabers Youth Tournament – October 27, 2019

Events Scheduled by age eligibility (subject to adjustment) and may be split by gender if there are more than 6 entrants of each:

Y8 Mixed Saber (born 2011-13)

Y10 Mixed Saber (born 2009-12)

Y12 Mixed Saber (born 2007-10)

Y14 Mixed Saber (born 2005-09)

All participants must have at minimum a USA Fencing non-competitive membership. Preregistration at askfred.net when event is posted.

Parties!

For a birthday or any other special occasion, Fencing Academy of Boston can host 90 minutes of fencing fun and games for your child and their guests. (Max. 16 total).
